General Information

Council Meetings:

The majority of Council meetings are open to the public.  However when open discussion may jeopardize the privacy or security of certain issues, Council meetings will go “in camera” and as a result will be closed to the public.

Before holding a meeting or part of a meeting that is to be closed to the public, Council is obliged to state that the meeting will be closed to the public as well as the general nature of the matter(s) to be considered.

Council meetings are normally held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and begin at 7:00 p.m.  The meetings are usually held at the Deseronto Lions Hall located at 300 Main St.

Council meetings are the more “formal” business meetings of the Town Council. Binding motions and by-laws can only be adopted during Council meetings.  Meetings of Council are governed by a procedural by-law which regulates the roles, responsibilities, and procedures during the Council meetings.

For further information regarding Council meetings, please call the Clerk’s office at (613) 396-2440 or email.

Deputations:

Members of the public wishing to verbally present information to Council for consideration can do so by being placed on the meeting’s agenda as a deputation.  Deputations are limited to ten minutes in length.  If you wish to be included on the agenda we ask that you provide written information regarding the topic of your concern.  If you have made arrangements to speak to Council, we hear from the public during the Deputation portion which occurs at the beginning of the Council Meeting.  If you do not wish to speak in front of Council, you can address a letter to Council which will be reviewed during the Council meeting.

Each Council meeting will also include a question period where the public will be given the opportunity to ask questions, and/or voice their concerns and suggestions regarding by-laws and other community issues.  Members of the public are not required to make a formal deputation request to speak during the question period.

To make a formal deputation request, or for further information regarding the process of being included on the Council agenda please call the Clerk at 613-396-2440 or email.

Anyone wishing to obtain a copy of a Council decision can call or visit the Clerk’s Office at the Town Hall located at 331 Main St.  Council minutes which contain decisions are available on the Town’s website.
