Deseronto Public Library

The Deseronto Public Library was established in 1895.  It has resided in a variety of locations throughout Deseronto over the past century.  In 2001, the library moved to its current, much larger location on Main St.  With almost 4000 square feet of space, the Deseronto Library is able to offer its members books and other  resources like never before.

Seniors Afternoon at the Library

Please join us for our senior’s afternoon at the library each Monday from 1-3pm. 

Deseronto Library Literacy Programs:

Deseronto Book Club

The book club is held at the library the first Tuesday of each month.  Everyone is welcome.  If you would like more information about joining the book club and the meeting times, please call the library.

Alzheimer Society Drop-In Day

Mr. Barry Flanigan, MSW from the Belleville, Hastings, Quinte Alzheimer Society, will be available to speak with at the library every third Monday of the month between 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM.  Mr. Flanigan is available to answer any questions, provide resources for treatment and counseling services in regards to Alzheimers Disease.

Reading Through The Seasons: On the Road to Literacy

This is a great program to promote reading throughout all the seasons of the year.  Participants keep track of how many books they have read each season, keep personal reading logs for recording thoughts and notes, and enter into free draws.  Come meet the programs new mascots Webster and Rita Reader.

Deseronto Teen Advisory Group

The Deseronto Library is in the process of forming a Teen Advisory Group.  Members of this group would have the opportunity to:

  • Offer suggestions for exciting teen programs
  • Provide feedback on the library’s teen collections
  • Contribute web site ideas
  • Meet other teens, offer suggestions/advice, and make new friends!

If you are between 12 and 19 years of age, and would like to get involved, please call the library for information about joining.  Remember- Being a member of the Youth Advisory Group counts towards your high school diploma community service time requirement.

Making a monetary donation is just one of the many ways community members can help the Deseronto Library.  There are many other things community members can do to help support and improve the library, including:

  • Volunteer to help out at the library.
  • Help with fundraising events.
  • Donate books, craft supplies, videos, up-to-date magazines, shelving, computers, furniture, etc.
  • Share your ideas that could benefit the Deseronto library.
  • Adopt a magazine.
  • Getting involved in the Library Board or starting a Friends of the Library Group.
  • Select the Deseronto Public Library for memoriam donations to honor or remember a lost loved one.

The Deseronto Library needs the sponsorship/support of the community to continue to provide and improve its resources and literacy programs.  Community members willing to volunteer their time to help with the library and its literacy programs are always needed as well.  If you would like to become a 2006 sponsor/supporter or volunteer your time for the Deseronto Library Literacy Programs, please contact Frances Smith, 613-396-2744.
