The Deseronto Parks & Recreation Department has established a Fundraising Committee to raise funds for the Centennial Park Revitalization Project. Our mission is to create a park and play space for all people of this community to explore and enjoy, one that enriches the quality of life for our youth, residents and visitors alike, and preserves it for future generations.
We’re on our way, but still have a long way to go to reach our goal of $195,000. Fundraising goals will be very difficult to achieve without the participation of energetic volunteers to assist with planning & activities, so please join us. Participation does not require a huge time commitment on your part - join in whenever you have some time to spare and assist with the activities that interest you most! Or why not organize a fundraising event of your own or with a group of friends.
Project Fundraising Goal & Status
Park Sponsorship Opportunities
Much of Centennial Park’s playground equipment and amenities are suffering from significant deterioration due to age and use. To ensure the continued safety of park users, Deseronto Council has passed a resolution to remove the playground equipment from the park. Enhancing & sustaining community recreation facilities and programs for youth and other user groups is a key priority of the Recreation Department. To that end, the department is coordinating a park revitalization project which will address elements including the replacement & upgrade of aging playground facilities, waterfront trail development, shoreline naturalization & accessibility improvements, plantings & landscaping features, and upgrades to pedestrian and boating amenities.
The project will be implemented during 2013, and the first quarter of 2014 - with an expected completion date of Mar 31st, 2014.
Key elements of the project will include:
1) Replacement & upgrades to existing playground equipment
2) Waterfront Trail Development
3) Shoreline restoration activities to promote habitat protection and public accessibility to the waterfront
4) Docking and boat launch improvements
5) Visitor amenities and landscaping features such as seating, picnic and rest areas, waste/recycle receptacles, lighting fixtures, stroller/bicycle parking, signage, trees/plants and additional landscaping features.
New Playground Design
The total value of the park revitalization project is $195,000. The project has received funding in the amount of $80,000 from the Government of Canada through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund. “With the support of Economic Action Plan 2012 through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund”.
The municipality has allocated $22,500 to the project during 2013 and has committed an additional $22,500 to the project in 2014; for a total of $45,000.
Municipal department staff and fundraising committee members are working diligently to raise an additional $45,000 in funds through sponsorship opportunities and fundraising events & activities.
The municipality has also applied to additional funding sources to secure the remaining $25,000 that must be raised to meet the estimated project cost of $195,000.
The fundraising committee has hosted a number of successful fundraising activities to-date, with plans for a variety of additional activities to come over the next year.
