COMMUNITY Emergency MANAGEMENT

Emergency PREPAREDNESS

Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere and the best defense is to be prepared. The Town of Deseronto is committed to emergency planning.  Each year our emergency plan is reviewed to ensure that we have developed and implemented emergency measures that will assist the community during an emergency as well as minimize recovery efforts.

Preparing for an emergency is important and something everyone should do.  Individuals and families play a vital role in preparing for times of crisis when emergency services and other municipal resources may be strained. Local responders may not be able to reach you immediately, or they may need to focus their efforts elsewhere. You should be ready to be self-sufficient for at least three days.

The following sections on this page have information on how you can prepare for emergencies including what you should do before, during and after an emergency.

Is Your Family Prepared?

The “Get Prepared” campaign encourages Canadians to be prepared to cope on their own for at least the first 72 hours of an emergency, enabling first responders to focus on those in urgent need.

Visit www.getprepared.ca open webpage for key steps to take during an emergency such as an earthquake, severe storm, flood, and more. Stay safe on the go with the new mobile website.

You can download this handy guide that will help prepare yourself and your family for a wide range of emergencies. The checklists provided will assist you in building your own 72 hour kit that will assist yourself and your loved ones during an emergency.

Pets in Emergencies

In Ontario, each of us is responsible for our own safety and survival during the first 72 hours of an emergency. The responsibility of caring for pets ultimately rests on the owner, including during an emergency. It’s important to develop and create a 72 hour Pet Emergency Survival Kit, much like we would for ourselves and our families.
