April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse
WHEN WILL THE ECLIPSE OCCUR?
The Town of Deseronto will experience a solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. We want our community to be able to experience this event in a safe manner. Here are some educational information and things you should consider.
A solar eclipse occurs then the moon passes between the sun and the earth which blocks the sun’s light.
The Hastings- Prince Edward District School Board has scheduled a P.A Day on April 8, 2024. Deseronto Public School will not be open to children which could increase the number of children present throughout the community.
The Town of Deseronto is within the projected path, meaning that the moon will block the sun resulting in a period of darkness in our community, creating an effect similar to as if it were night time.
The solar eclipse is set to take place between 2:08p.m and 4:33p.m in Deseronto with the projected period of totality(total darkness) to occur between 3:15p.m and 3:30p.m
HOW TO SAFELY ENJOY THE SOLAR ECLIPSE
Make sure you have ISO approved solar eclipse sunglasses from a reputable vendor or a safe handheld solar viewer.
Limit the need for any errands during the projected time of the eclipse to avoid any potential traffic increase from the community or visitors
Plan to experience the eclipse close to home in a safe and unobstructed area while avoiding areas near water(waterfront, dams or hazards)that could present additional hazards.
