Council Information and Notices

Council Meetings
Regular Council meetings take place on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month commencing at 6:30pm. All meetings are located at the Deseronto Town Hall (331 Main St.). For information regarding Council deputations visit the Council page.

Closed Council Meetings
The municipal council or local board decides whether a meeting will be closed to the public.

A municipality or local board can close a meeting to the public when dealing with the following:

  • The security of the property of the municipality or local board.
  • Personal matters about an identifiable individual, including municipal or local board employees.
  • A proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land by the municipality or local board.
  • Labour relations or employee negotiations.
  • Litigation or potential litigation, including matters before administrative tribunals (e.g. Ontario Municipal Board), affecting the municipality or local board.
  • Advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege.
  • A matter in respect of which the council, board, committee or other body may hold a closed meeting under another Act.

Two instances where a municipality must close a meeting to the public are:

  • If the subject matter relates to the consideration of a request under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and if the council, board, commission, or other body is the head of an institution for the purposes of that Act.
  • If the subject matter relates to a request for council approval to disclose information about hazards or risks to public safety, which the municipality has identified for the purposes of preparing a municipal emergency management program.

For further information regarding Council meetings, please call the Clerk’s office at (613) 396-2440

Deputations
Members of the public wishing to verbally present information to Council for consideration can do so by being placed on the meeting’s agenda as a deputation. Deputations are limited to ten minutes in length. If you wish to be included on the agenda we ask that you provide written information regarding the topic of your concern. If you do not wish to speak in front of Council, you can address a letter to Council which will be reviewed during the Council meeting.

Each Council meeting will also include a question period where the public will be given the opportunity to ask questions, and/or voice their concerns and suggestions regarding by-laws and other community issues. Members of the public are not required to make a formal deputation request to speak during the question period.
To make a formal deputation request, or for further information regarding the process of being included on the Council agenda please call the Clerk at 613-396-2440 or email .

Anyone wishing to obtain a copy of a Council decision can contact the Clerk’s Office at the Town Hall located at 331 Main St. Council minutes which contain decisions are available on the Town’s website.

On Friday July 21st, the Town of Deseronto's Recreation Department hosted their 7th Annual Golf Tournament at the Briar Fox Golf & Country Club in Marysville. It was an excellent afternoon spent on the course and we were able to raise over $3000 that will be used to support our local recreation facilities and programs. We would like to thank everyone who joined us & a special thanks to our wonderful sponsors and local organizations who made the day such a wonderful success. THANK YOU! ... See MoreSee Less
