Thursday Sept. 28, 2023, is Ontario’s first Test Your Smoke Alarm Day!
Last year there were 133 fire fatalities in the province – the most in 20 years. Many of these fires were found to have no working smoke alarms.
“A working smoke alarm is the most effective method of alerting you and your family to the dangers of a fire in your home,” said Fire Chief Darrell Brinklow. “I encourage all of our residents in Deseronto to participate by simply pressing the test button on their alarms and ensuring that each smoke detector in their home is working properly.”
As part of Test Your Smoke Alarm Day, all Ontarians are encouraged to learn more about smoke alarms, fire safety, and home fire escape planning, which can save the lives of you and your loved ones. Most importantly, we want you to test your smoke alarms!
Please join us at the Deseronto Fire Department on September 28th between the hours of 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm where Fire Department members will be available to provide information regarding smoke alarms, fire safety and home escape planning. If your smoke alarm is expired, you will be able to exchange your old alarm for a new one while supplies last.
If you require assistance, the Deseronto Fire Department will come to your home by appointment to test your smoke and CO alarms to ensure they are working properly. You can book your appointments online at the link below or by calling Town Hall at (613) 396-2440.
