For Immediate Release
December 4, 2024
THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF DESERONTO
DESERONTO, ONTARIO
SUBJECT: Unattended Open-Air Fires
With the recent number of small fires being set on vacant or municipal properties, the Deseronto Fire Department would like to remind residents that the lighting of open-air fires requires a permit. Fires must always be supervised and fully extinguished before being left.
Fires deliberately set or left unattended can lead to larger fires that threaten nearby property and structures. These types of unattended fires may lead to legal consequences.
For more information please refer to the Open Air Burn By-Law #14-16.
If you witness an unattended open-air fire, please call 911. If you happen to witness the person starting the fire, please report that information to the Police.
Residents are also reminded to have "WORKING" Smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarms on ALL levels of your residence. This is an Ontario Fire Code law and is enforceable.
BE SAFE - BE SURE YOUR SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS ARE "WORKING" FOR YOU!
