Total Burn Ban in Deseronto Effective March 23, 2020

The Town of Deseronto is declaring a Total Burn Ban effective Monday, March 23, 2020.

Due to the current Coronavirus/COVID-19 situation, Deseronto is working to ensure the safety and well-being of every individual. To prevent the chance of exhausting the limited amount of Town Emergency Services staff and resources, the Deseronto Volunteer Fire Department is taking proactive measures and enforcing a Total Burn Ban within The Town of Deseronto so that the department can focus its efforts primarily on preventive and educational measures in regards to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 outbreak.

A Total Burn Ban prohibits lighting any fires in open air and prohibits any activities that may start a fire, i.e. setting off fireworks. Due to the dry conditions, fires can start and spread quickly and burn intensely. All fires are potentially dangerous.

The Town of Deseronto strongly advises residents to check with the Fire Department to ensure the Total Burn Ban has been lifted before considering an open-air fire. Any residents not adhering to the Total Burn Ban could face fines plus liability for the cost of the Deseronto Fire Department to extinguish an out of control fire. This Total Burn Ban will be in effect until further notice.

NEWS RELEASE

Enbridge Gas Inc. Assists Deseronto Fire Department in Supporting Firefighter Training

On December 4, 2019 – Enbridge Gas Inc. is helping Deseronto Fire Department

purchase firefighting training materials, through Project Assist – a program that

supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the

communities where Enbridge operates.

“At Enbridge Gas, safety is our priority. We’re proud to support Ontario firefighters who

share our commitment to keeping our communities safe,” said Michelle Rogers, District

Representative Enbridge Gas Inc.

This year’s $100,000 donation from Enbridge Gas will be shared by 20 Ontario fire

departments, including Deseronto Fire Department. Funds will be used to purchase

educational materials for firefighters to enhance life-saving techniques.

Since the launch of Project Assist in 2012, 174 grants have been provided to Ontario fire

departments for additional firefighter training.

“Project Assist improves access to training materials for municipal fire departments,” said

Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chief, Emergency Management. “Firefighting can be

dangerous and unpredictable, and these training materials positively contribute to the

health and safety of firefighters and the broader community.”

“Each year, small communities across the province face more and more financial

challenges for their volunteer fire departments. Thank You Enbridge for your generous

donation to support The Town of Deseronto Volunteer Fire Department. This donation will

allow us to purchase the necessary training materials to ensure continued skills training

of our dedicated volunteer fire fighters.”

Dale Loney, Fire Chief, Town of Deseronto, Fire Department

“The Town of Deseronto is grateful to Enbridge Gas for their generous donation of $5000.

Ensuring we have a well-trained team of Firefighting professionals is a focus of our

department and safety and training are our guiding principles. This donation will go a long

way in helping us provide the best service we can for our community. Thank you

Enbridge for your contribution.”

Dan Johnston, Mayor, Deseronto
